![]() ![]() ![]() The beautifully crafted scenario, which includes twists and turns, is a masterpiece in itself with both its characters and its immersive subject. Set in Korea in the 1930s (Japanese invasion) the film revolves around A swindler who wants to be rich quickly, a girl working for him, a rich and fascinating man and his nephew who lives under his auspices. And now, The Handmaiden is already among the films that I would like to watch again and again. Even though I watched Old Boy many times, it is one of the films that I never get tired of and always admire its magnificence. When I heard that he directed this film, I couldn’t help but watch it. I had watched South Korean director Park Chan-wook’s films Old Boy and Stoker before and loved them both. As you can understand, I am determined to consume anything that could inspire such a movie. Sarah Waters has been on my reading list for years, and after watching this film, I bought Tipping the Velvet. The Handmaiden is based on Sarah Waters’ novel Fingersmith. ![]()
